  • Large Format Display System provides enhanced situational awareness for pilots and reduces maintenance costs for operators
  • Helps Boeing 757 and 767 operators comply with future airspace modernization requirements

AMSTERDAM (Oct. 17, 2018) - Rockwell Collins and Atlantic Aviation Group (AAG) have signed an agreement to provide Large Display System (LDS) retrofits to owner-operators of Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EuMEA) region. Building upon the companies’ previous LDS completion for Star Air, the agreement sets the stage for streamlining operators’ ability to comply with upcoming mandates.

Rockwell Collins’ LDS is the only fully integrated, certified and Boeing-endorsed display upgrade solution for the B757/B767 aircraft that removes all Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) from the cockpit. The LDS upgrade will help B757/B767 owner-operators avoid obsolescence issues currently associated with CRT systems.

“We look forward to working with AAG to significantly extend the operational life of B757 and B767 aircraft throughout the EuMEA region, as well as providing owner-operators with a significant cockpit and technology upgrade,” said Steve Timm, vice president and general manager, Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. “Greater situational awareness for pilots is a key benefit of the upgrade since the large-format displays enable flight information to be portrayed according to personal preferences.”

"We are delighted to move forward with Rockwell Collins in offering LDS to our 757 and 767 customers," said Colm Carty, Atlantic Aviation Group's Engineering Manager. "We will be leveraging our experience with the Star Air 767 installations and our EASA Design Organisation approval to offer an end-to-end service for customers. Atlantic Aviation Group has the engineering and project management capabilities to deliver LDS as an integrated product, including providing best-fit solutions to ensure that the aircraft will meet configuration requirements."

The LDS upgrade improves reliability five-fold, decreases line maintenance actions by 80 percent, provides a positive return on investment and decreases avionics weight. It features three large-format 15.1-inch LCD displays that replace six CRT displays and numerous analog instruments to provide operators with a number of benefits, including:

  • Boeing collaboration and support to ensure Boeing flight deck philosophy is maintained
  • A platform to incorporate future safety-enhancing technology such as airport taxi maps, data link weather, surface guidance, and synthetic and enhanced vision systems
  • Complete replacement of all older displays and majority of older line-replaceable units (LRUs)
  • Engine-indication and crew-alerting system (EICAS) displays replaced and integrated into the LDS system
  • Reduced pilot training due to alignment with Boeing flight deck philosophy on its most modern aircraft, including Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX
  • The only certified system that is fully integrated and eliminates all the older EDUs from the cockpit
